How to Optimise Your LinkedIn Profile for Job Offers

  • Start with a professional headshot

Profiles with a photo receive up to 21 times more profile views. A clear, professional headshot makes a strong first impression.

  • Craft a compelling headline

Your headline doesn’t need to just say “Accounts Assistant at XYZ Ltd”. Use that valuable space to showcase your strengths or aspirations. For example:

Part-Qualified ACCA | Experienced in Management Accounts & VAT | Seeking New Opportunities in Kent

  • Write a standout ‘About’ section

This is your elevator pitch. In a few short paragraphs, explain who you are, what you’re good at, and what you’re looking for. Use keywords relevant to your role (e.g. “monthly reporting,” “Xero,” “statutory accounts”) to improve visibility in recruiter searches.

  • Showcase your experience with achievements

Under each role, don’t just list duties. Include achievements, improvements you made, or processes you streamlined. Use metrics where possible.

  • List your qualifications and software skills

Be specific about your qualifications: ACCA, AAT, CIMA, etc.—and mention software like Sage, Xero or QuickBooks. Many recruiters filter searches using these terms.

  • Get recommendations and endorsements

Ask former managers or colleagues for short recommendations. These act as references and build trust. Skills endorsements also help validate your capabilities.

  • Turn on ‘Open to Work’

Let recruiters know you’re open to opportunities. You can choose to show the green #OpenToWork banner or keep it discreetly visible to recruiters only.

  • Stay active

Engage with posts, share updates, or comment on industry trends. Activity shows that you’re involved in your profession and helps keep your profile visible.

If you’re currently looking for a new role or just want to be ready for the next step, now’s the time to invest in your LinkedIn presence.
